On Sunday, the fam took a trip up to the state pen. (Angola is about 30 mins from Jordan's parent's house) We went to the famous Angola Prison Rodeo. They only do the rodeo in April and October...and it sells out quickly! It was an experience. Angola is known as "the farm"; most of the animals used in the rodeo were bred and born there. Angola inmates also farm their own food. They provide the food for themselves and some other prison's too. It actually has an interesting history. Here is the website if you're interested.

(Camera's weren't allowed in, so these pics are from NPR.)
Each year Warden Cain encourages inmates to do a poster to advertise the rodeo. This is the poster for this year.

The inmate's pray at the start of the rodeo.

Here are some pics of the events...

This was not an unusual sight...

This is the last event. It is called "Guts and Glory". The bull has a poker chip stuck to his head and the inmates try to get it off. Whoever does it wins some big bucks. No one got it this time. But one guy got on the bulls head.

They also do a HUGE hobbycraft fair. The inmates sell crafts that they have made. Many of them work all year getting ready for the rodeo/fair. They do some incredible woodworking.
It was lots of fun and if you ever happen to be in South Louisiana when the rodeo is going on, I'd recommend going.
