Our summer thus far!

It's been a fun summer thus far! A little warm...but we've managed to find ways to stay cool!!
Right off the bat this year Caleb took swim lessons through summer camp at our school. Caleb is a very good swimmer. This year he has NO fear...it has made all the difference.

We were supposed to go back to Florida in mid-June but the oil beat us there. We are so sad for our beautiful Pensacola/Perdido Key beach but are grateful we got to go in May. Instead of Florida we drove up to North Louisiana for the Kilpatrick reunion. It was on lake D'Arbonne. We stayed in cabins on the lake and had a great time swimming, catching up, catching bugs, and trying to catch fish. Caleb was in the midst of a poison ivy reaction...that is why he is looking a little weird. This is my only picture from that weekend. How sad.

For Father's day my dad came in town. He closed on his new house in the New Orleans Garden district. It is my favorite part of New Orleans and the house is neat too. It was built in 1914. They aren't moving back from D.C. just yet but eventually they'll retire here. We went and ate at Mandina's. YUMMY! I was so excited they still had oysters. I LOVE fried oysters. A lot of places are running out and there won't be anymore for who knows how long. We ended the day eating snoballs with Leslie and JR.

Dad's house.

We've spent a lot of time in our backyard. We got the boys this little pool. Last years lasted almost 2 weeks. I meant to get the bigger one but didn't realize I got the wrong one til it was up. The boys obviously didn't care and played in this thing for HOURS everyday. This one lasted nearly 3 weeks. It wasn't the liner this time...it was the pump. Fortunately, Jordan's parents had a gotten a big one for the boys at their house and just sent it back with us.

We have loved watching my garden grow. My flowers are beautiful and the peppers, cucumbers, and okra are plentiful. The tomatoes are a different story and have actually provided a little entertainment for the summer. Prepare to be grossed out. My neighbor helped us figure out that we had rats...yes rats eating our tomatoes. She kept finding my half eaten green tomatoes in her yard. We started setting rat traps and between our neighbors and ourselves have killed 10 rats. Nasty. But the boys love it. It seemed that we had wiped out most of the rat population and then the rain came. I thought my tomatoes were gonners. They looked so sad. But low and behold after poking holes all around them, they came back. They are now producing sickly looking tiny red creole tomatoes. I actually ate a few and they don't taste bad...but it is hard for me to get past the rats.

We celebrated Jordan's brother's 20th birthday and have loved having him hang with us before he heads to basic training in August.

Olive the bird is probably ready for the boys to start school. We thought we were going to lose her after Eli brought her in from a "flying lesson". It was really hot outside and we aren't sure how many times he threw her up in the air. We are glad she's still with us. She now whistles the LSU fight song and Andy Griffith. Jordan is so proud!

We've been doing baseball since April. Caleb's season just ended last week. The little guys did t-ball and Caleb played coaches' pitch. He did really well.
Eli...never a dull moment.

Caleb playing catcher!

For the 4th we went to Austin to visit Jordan's parents...but that's a whole 'nother blog!!
